Institute of Law
The Grand Prince Volodymyr the Great Institute of Law was established on November 9, 1994 by the decision of the Intersectoral Accrediting Commission as of October 20, 1994 (minutes № 14) and the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as of November 9, 1994 № 310 for the purpose of carrying out training, methodological, scientific and editorial-and-publishing activities, providing information, consulting and other services.
The Institute’s activities are conducted according to the principles of humanism, democracy, mutual respect among nations and peoples, extensive use of international experience in the areas of science, culture and education, all-round development of the personality by organizing effective training of individuals irrespective of sex, race, religious convictions, party affiliation, place of residence and other circumstances.

The Institute provides instruction to around 1,500 students. In conformity with the licensed scope of services, it trains, based on full-time and correspondence training, in the specialty of “Jurisprudence” experts of the following educational and qualification levels: bachelor, specialist, master and, in the specialty of “Law Enforcement Activities,” experts of the educational and qualification levels of bachelor and specialist.
The departments of the Institute of Law are its components ensuring proper organization of the teaching process, raising of the educational level of young people, education and development of gifted, talented individuals.
Dean for Correspondence and Full-Time Training Kateryna Serhiivna Lisova, Ph.D. in Historical Sciences performs management of the dean’s office personnel who, in cooperation with the subdepartments, enable every student to realize their fullest potential in studies and during their extracurricular time.
The Classroom Instruction Department provides knowledge to 470 students, 53 of whom are five-pointers. Research activities of young people are encouraged: Institute’s students took part in the All-Ukrainian Students’ Competition, All-Ukrainian Contest of Student Research Papers, All-Ukrainian Research-to-Practice Conference “The Pressing Issues of Civil and Economic Law, student research conference “The International Legal Mechanism for Human Rights Protection,” research-to-practice seminars “The Topical Issues of the Right of Ownership, “Religious Offenses.” The Institute’s students have achieved prominent results in sporting events and competitions: Volodymyr Shats’kykh is the world Greco-Roman wrestling champion in the weight class of up to 74 kg.; Anton Bochkariov – world hand-to-hand fighting champion in the weight class of up to 90 kg.; Viktor Kykot’ – winner of the Ukraine’s Cup for Freestyle Wrestling; Mykola Lin’ko, Dmytro Liubukhin, Yuriy Stepanenko – bronze medalists of the European Student Soccer Championship.
The Institute’s Student Council issues a popular student information analysis publication entitled “The Institute of Law.” The Department’s management team, along with the Extracurricular Activity Board, organizes active recreation of students and familiarizes them with the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. They conduct Ukrainian Language Days, encourage literary activity of Oleksandr Kolos, Hanna Danyk, Yuriy Sivovna; ardor for music of Iryna Puzey, Hanna Danyk, arrange exhibitions of students’ papers. Highly professional personnel of the subdepartments’ faculty ensure excellence in teaching of educational subjects based on practical experience gained in public authorities, judicial and law-enforcement bodies. The list of such experts is rather sizeable, in particular: Mykola Ivanovych Anufriev, doctor of law, professor of the Subdepartment of History and Theory of State and Law; Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Bandurka, doctor of law, professor of the Subdepartment of Administrative Law; Viacheslav Vasyliovych Jun’, doctor of law, professor of the Subdepartment of Civil Law Disciplines; Mykola Nestorovych Kurko, doctor of law, professor of the Subdepartment of International Law and Comparative Jurisprudence; Anatoliy Mykolayovych Podoliaka, doctor of law, professor of the Subdepartment of Labor and Commercial Law; Yuriy Valerianovych Aleksandrov, Ph.D. in Law, professor, honored lawyer of Ukraine, one of the drafters of the Criminal Code of Ukraine of 2001; Borys Stepanovych Bezzub, Ph.D. in Law, professor; Oleksiy Khashymovych Yuldashev, doctor of law, professor, member of the Judicial Reform State Commission of 2010; Eduard Ivanovych Nyzenko, Ph.D. in Law, assistant professor, practicing lawyer with 28-year record of service in law-enforcement bodies; Svitlana Petrivna Kondrakova, practicing lawyer with 30-year record of service in police units of Ukraine and many others.
Almost five years ago, in compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute set up a student legal counseling center “Central Legal Clinic” with branches under the Holosiiv, Solomianka and Darnyts’a district state administrations. Over this time period, 3-5-years have rendered legal assistance to more than 6 thousand low-income persons.
